In the Silverstein song (a #7 chart hit for the Irish Rovers in 1968), the unicorns are foolish and playful, and fail to enter the Ark in time. Amidst the questions bursting from the children under the bed, Ma tells them, "This ain’t easy, but sometimes you’ve got to take a stand.” But this book is so much more than the story of Ma writing the song on the back of a calendar page, riveting though it is. I have grown to count on it to learn about books by new authors and those that don’t show up in the review publications with starred status.

I am 35 and read this children's book in the late 70s early 80s. It tells the story of a boy or a man who lives in a town with no colour ie the town is black and white. I think he is a painter and decides to paint the town but can't decide which colour to use so he starts with red but this colour makes the people in the town too angry so then he decides to paint the town blue but this makes the town's people very sad and on he goes, trying green, yellow and so forth and he can't seem to get it right because people experience different moods depending on the colour he chooses ref.: The Lion, the Witch and the download for free Joseph Jaeobs. a member of the English Folklore Society. remarkcd in his essay Th/!
