Getting started 23 Application client container The application client container works similarly to the Web container. The biggest difference between the application client and Web container is that the application client container does not contain any code for the GUI. The application client container responds to requests made from a stand-alone desktop application. Applet container Java applets are small programs written in the Java language that are intended to be executed at the Web browser of the client.

It includes a simplified Web application server, a development environment based on WebSphere Studio, which is powered by Eclipse technology, and wizards and samples, which help reduce project complexity and deployment costs. This chapter presents an overview of WebSphere Studio and describes common tasks that need to be done during the development of Web solutions.
