This finding indicates the presence of enantiomer-specific pinene synthases in Norway spruce. Indeed, we identified a stereospecific (-)-a/p-pinene synthase (PaTPS-Pin). Another highly abundant compound in bark, wood, and needles of Norway spruce is the acyclic monoterpene myrcene. Concentrations of myrcene increased following MeJA treatment, suggesting a role for the cloned myrcene synthase gene (PaTPS-Myr) in this response.
