Secondly, and more importantly, it will make your query stand out from the crowd. Agents receive dozens of queries via regular mail each day. When most agents receive mail, they look at the return address; if it’s a name they don’t recognize, it goes on a pile, where it can sit for weeks or months without even being opened.

But when querying for a work of non-fiction, certain elements that were crucial for fiction— such as literary magazine credits or endorsements from novelists—will no longer be relevant.
