He retained a close circle of friends and a generous array of hobbies. He still raised hell on occasion, just like other kids, and he still spent time at the café listening to all kinds of music. At home, his mother made him responsible for doing all the chores of a typical child.

STUDIO CITY In 1962, Ray decided to centralize his business operations in Los Angeles. Since the Atlantic deal, Ray had been forced to work frequently out of New York City, even though he was living in California. So rather than make that trek, he moved everything out West. He bought property in a working-class neighborhood in LA. He assisted in the design of the building, a modest, twostory structure which would house both his business offices and his recording studio, which he called RPM Studios.
